Finding Your Way Around

Four campuses

UZH is currently spread across four different sites: there are over 40 buildings on the UZH City Campus, more than 30 buildings on the UZH Irchel site, and eight more buildings at the two smaller sites, UZH Oerlikon and UZH Schlieren. The courses run by the seven faculties are generally spread across the four sites as follows:

  • UZH City Campus: Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences; Faculty of Law; Faculty of Business, Economics and Informatics; Faculty of Theology and the Study of Religion
  • UZH Irchel: Faculty of Science, Faculty of Medicine, Vetsuisse Faculty
  • UZH Oerlikon: Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences and Faculty of Business, Economics and Informatics
  • UZH Schlieren: Faculty of Medicine and Vetsuisse Faculty

Virtual map of UZH

The virtual UZH map shows all sites, buildings, lecture halls, seminar rooms, offices and libraries. You can use the different filters to display the available services, study spaces, museums, food and drink options, and special facilities for people with a sensory or mobility impairment.

Room codes

In the course catalogue, the room where a course takes place is given a code. Room codes generally comprise a three-letter building code, the floor, and the room number.

Example:  RAI-F-041
RAI = Building at Rämistrasse 74 on the UZH City Campus
F = Floor F in building RAI
041 = Room no. 41 on floor F in building RAI

Getting from one campus to another

Depending on your study program, your courses may take place on different UZH campuses. You can take tram lines 9 and 10 to travel between City Campus and Irchel, or tram lines 10 and 14 to travel between Irchel and Oerlikon. To travel between the City Campus and Oerlikon there are also free VBZ buses that run during the main breaks in the morning, at lunchtime and in the afternoons:

Opening hours of University buildings

Building opening hours vary from site to site. You’ll find details of regular opening hours and exceptional opening hours applicable on public holidays under “Dates and Addresses”:

University Library

The University Library (UB Zürich) operates more than 30 locations at all UZH sites. Its locations are usually open from 9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday. You’ll find individual opening times for each location under “Dates and Addresses”.

Access with UZH Card

A growing number of UB Zürich sites are open to UZH students outside of opening times using the UZH Card. You’ll find everything you need to know at a glance on the library’s website:

Uniability: Committed to Accessibility

Information on accessibility of buildings and facilities is available in the online guide Uniability (in German). Besides important information on equipment and facilities, you’ll also find additional information specifically for students with a visual, hearing or mobility impairment. All the information on Uniability is also linked directly to the virtual UZH map.
